Hello everyone, here’s a photo journal to reminiscence upon User Experience Design Team’s first internship week at Alibaba!

Our first day of work in Alibaba! Needless to say, most of us were very excited working at the biggest e-commerce company in China.

Some shots from our internship life here. Check out the amazing infographics wall that updates in real time!

We were introduced to the friendly UED team, who will be our mentors throughout our 9 week internship here.

One interesting thing to note is that they address each other as (name)同学, which I think is apt in many ways. Regardless of rank or age, we are all learning, and I guess a schooling attitude brings about a greater sense of camaraderie, no?

Our first presentation- a short session of self-introduction, on ourselves, as well as our respective home countries.

Our ultimate goal in Alibaba is to improve the user experience of Aliexpress International in Russia and Brazil.

We were divided into two teams for each respective country. After settling down into our workspaces, wifi/LAN and Aliwangwang (Alibaba’s version of msn), we got to work!

Our work space for our internship period, where we would be designing and innovating on ideas to improve the user experience of Alibaba.com users.

Theme 7 for the win!

On Friday we took a day off to attend the UX conference, which was an invaluable exposure for us to learn from the biggest players in the industry.

All psyched up for getting inspired!

IxDC (Interaction Design Committee) is an interdisciplinary center that focuses on user experience design related activities.

More group shots. Spot the legendary Prof. Ying (ZJU ALP leader) under the panel of speakers!

Some notes I took from the inspiring talks and speeches.

We gained much insight into future design trends, the potentials of big data integration into our daily lives, as well as user design thinking, amongst many other interesting topics.

Throughout this internship, I believe that the greatest takeaway for all of us in the UED team is to always put the User at the forefront thoughout the design process, especially in making decisions regarding web features and interface.

The countless presentations and consultations that we’ve had with the company allowed us to continuously improve and refine our ideas, thanks to the useful and valuable perspectives given by our experienced UED mentors from AliExpress.

Looking forward to our final exhibition and presentation!

A pretty photo of the sunset in Hangzhou.

Ending off with a view I will definitely be missing when we return to Singapore.
