ALP – Visit to Suzhou

2 Jun

By Jessie Tang (Theme 2)

Together with group 6, we took a side trip to Suzhou to explore its traditional water village.

Besides the local attractions like lion garden, Ping Jiang lu, our tour specifically included the well known Suzhou museum designed by I.M. Pei.

One very distinct feature about the Suzhou museum is the attention to details. Every edge of the tiles is connected in a precise fashion. Like how the ceiling connects down to the walls and even the way the banners are hung, is aligned to the handrails of the stairway.

One thing I like about this architecture is the use of wooden louvers and natural skylight to light up the interior.

This is how the exhibition place looks like, very very simple way of displaying the various artifacts.

As Suzhou is famous for its gardens, the garden of Suzhou museum must also reflect this quality.

Well after this trip, we carried on our journey in making paper lamps! Stay tuned for next week’s posts!
